Team 2000- Baseball 71-75

Luis Mercedes -- With a career that only lasted three seasons. Mercedes played two of those with the Orioles, and one with the Giants. I couldn't find any information on the outfielder, but judging from his stats. I would say he spent most of those seasons in the minors. Playing 70 games over that time span Mercedes was a huge disappointment when he was in the majors. A .190 batting average was just one of his many sad stats.

Todd Van Poppel -- Drafted by the Oakland A's in 1990. Van Poppel was signed to a MLB contract rather than the usual minor league contract. This unfortunately was his undoing as the A's wanting to get something for their money rushed the young pitcher to the majors. Bouncing between the A's and the minor leagues until 1996 when Van Poppel was finally released by the team. Van Poppel was able to sign with the Tigers. Five other stops followed as Van Poppel became a middle reliever. Never able to reach his potential Van Poppel retired in 2004.

Gary Scott -- Playing only two seasons for the Chicago Cubs. Scott was the opening day third baseman both seasons. After a poor start in 1991 Scott was sent back to the minors where he stayed for the remainder of the season. Back again in 1992, Scott suffered the same fate. Scott played until 1996, but never made the Cubs roster again.

Monty Fariss -- Drafted by the Rangers in 1998. Fariss didn't make his debut until 1991. Playing only three seasons, two with the Rangers, and one with the Florida Marlins. Playing in only 18 games his lone season with the Marlins, Fariss retired at seasons end.

Kyle Abbott -- Originally drafted by the California Angels with the 9th pick in 1989. It wasn't until 1991 before Abbott got his first start. Playing only 5 games Abbott was 1-2 with a 4.58 ERA. In the off-season Abbott was traded to the Phillies where he went 0-7 before being sent back to the minors. A return back to Philadelphia before seasons end followed but Abbott ended the season 1-14. Sent back to the minors Abbott didn't make it back until 1995. The following year Abbott signed with the Angels again and played one game before being sent back down a final time.
